Current Volunteer Opportunities:

If you want to volunteer for any or all of the following volunteer opportunities, call me, Joan Federman at 469-6600.

1. WERU is scheduled, as usual, to have a table at this year’s HOPE Festival this Saturday, April 19th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Field House at the University of Maine in Orono.

The intention of this inspiring event is to “help organize peace earthwide.”

If you would like to support this vision while representing WERU at this event, the station can use your help to staff its table for 2 hours from
10am-12 noon, 12 noon to 2pm, 2 pm to 4pm.

Please email the station at info@weru.org or call at 469-6600.

2. Julia Ventresco and Hazel Stark have stepped up to coordinate the WERU Music Sale, making it possible for it to happen: Thursday, May 1st through Saturday, May 3rd. They need volunteers to help with the following:

  1. Selecting, sorting and categorizing the cds and vinyl
  2. Selling on the days of the sale
  3. Advertising.

We need CDS that you are no longer using and want to re-cycle and donate to our Music Sale

If you have some CDs that you would be willing to donate to the station for the sale, please take the extra step of labeling those selections that you feel would be appealing to buyers and could be sold for $7.00 or more. Also, please identify the CDs you contribute as coming from your collection so that we can display them as "so and so DJ's recommendations" and thus utilize your connection with the audience to possibly make some sales for the cause! A little sacrifice from your collection will go a long way for Community Radio, so thanks in advance.

Help is needed to sort vinyl and cds by genre for the sale and to help sell during the sale May 1st and May 3rd. Contact the Music Sale coordinators, Hazel Stark at imaginepeace89@yahoo.com or Julia Ventresco at juliabeth3@yahoo.com or 667-4472.

We need food to feed the open house guests on May 1st. If you want to contribute food for this community event, please let Renee know (renee@weru.org or 469-6600.)

Hot plates are needed for the food for the open house. If you have any you could lend the station for the day, please let Renee know (renee@weru.org or 469-6600.

Thanks for all your support!!!!

If interested in supporting this new event, call Volunteer Coordinator, Joan Federman at 469-6600.

3.
WERU has been able to do the WERU Radio Auction once again thanks to Mary Kellet volunteering to coordinate it on December 6th 8am to 12noon. She is beginning the planning process now and needs help in brainstorming auction items and in soliciting items from retailers, resorts, etc.

If you are interested in getting into the fun of creating the auction, contact Volunteer Cooordinnator, Joan Federman.

VOLUNTEER WORK THEN CHECK OUT

WERU's ONGOING DEVELOPMENT TASKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer at WERU

Alan Sprague (volunteer host of the X-Large Soul Show on Thursdays) in the WERU on-air studio.

As a grassroots community radio station, WERU invites and depends on people from the communities served by our broadcast signal to get involved as volunteers with virtually all aspects of station operations.

Over sixty volunteers serve as WERU’s on-air programmers, bringing the listeners music programs, commentary, information and public affairs programs.

Behind the scenes volunteers are also active at WERU, providing everything from office help to facilities maintenance. Volunteers are also an important part of the decision-making process at WERU, and many serve on a variety of working committees (covering the areas fundraising and development,      programming, special events, personnel, volunteer issues, finances and strategic planning).

SPRING 08' Volunteer Orientation & Training

New Volunteer Orientation Classes & Training at WERU

A grassroots organization relies on enthusiastic people doing worthwhile work. That’s why WERU Community Radio offers free training for radio station volunteers. Without our skilled and dedicated volunteers, WERU would not even exist!

New Volunteer Orientation is the starting point for becoming a WERU DJ, news reporter, talk show host, committee member or behind-the-scenes volunteer. For new volunteers who hope to be on-the-air doing music, public affairs or other spoken-word programming, radio programming and production classes will take place on Wednesday nights and Saturday mornings later in the fall.
