Kim and Reggie Harris

Appearing on the Acoustic stage
at 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM on Sunday July 24th, 2005

Kim and Reggie Harris are an engaging and talented wife/husband duo whose stunning voices and intelligent harmonies prompted one reviewer to describe them as "vocal acoustic joy!!".

Partners in music and life they say that music is a calling. They strive to reach out to their audiences and other performers, and consider involving people in music a mission. Their audiences find singing along with them in concert nearly irresistible. Their folk-oriented repertoire ranges from traditional music, most often in the African-American tradition, to their own original songs and selections from other contemporary songwriters. They endeavor to achieve a perfect balance between these in performance and on recordings. Kim and Reggie stand out as African-Americans who don't sing blues in a largely white contemporary folk scene. Having met in 1974, they also share one of the longest professional and personal partnerships in the folk world.

Listening to Simplicitv is akin to that first glass of orange juice in the morning, the first warm day of Spring, and a bolt of lightning in a thunderstorm. Kim and Reggie Harris are two artists where it's hard to separate the singer from the song, even if they're interpreting someone else's song. They present a wide variety of songs, mixing gentle, personal love songs, fiery songs of protest, poetry, and spirituals into this almost 69-minute gift of music.
